Welcone to the Bulldawg Illustrated UGA Hoops report. It’s like getting ruffied (insert “drinking too much” or something like that if “getting rufied” is not appropriate) but instead of waking up a robbery victim in a ditch, you’ve got a winning lottery ticket in your pocket. In what was an amazing display of effort and courage UGA and Auburn showed why both teams are as good as most people think.
Ok, never mind. There’s no way to put lipstick on this pig. Two of the least powerful offensive teams in recent history squared off on the plains last Wednesday. Unfortunately for our Dawgs, per the NCAA handbook someone has to lose. However, in a game like that, I think both teams should be given a loss. So under my new system, while the Dawgs didn’t win, neither should Auburn. In short, both team stunk it up. Neither team could score 60. Neither team could shoot over 35% from the floor. And neither to could shoot over 30% from the 3 point arc. In short, horrendous. In long, the Dawgs were just plain awful. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead, we got outscored 26-8 over the final 15 minutes of the first half. If Big Blue did that to us, I’d fully accept it. But Awburn is even worse than we are. However, we can throw it in the ocean. Where in the heck are the back door cuts from wide open ducks out of Mark Fox’s triangle offense. The only thing I can say right now about our offense is that it’s offensive! We rank 314th in points scored. Do you know how teams are in Division 1? One don’t but I guessing 314 after watching up play every game this year.
So after the previously mentioned debacle, we now head to the Land of Orange and Moonshine to battle the Jekyll and Hyde Volunteers. This team has beaten Uconn when they were ranked 11, No. 12 Fla, and had #1 UK on the ropes at home last month before losing by three. Yet, they are the team that gave our Dawgs their lone conference win. So which UT teams shows up tonite? Who knows, but sweeping those guys would sure be nice. It would be a silver lining in an otherwise thunderstorm of a season. While our road play has bordered upon atrocious this year, we do have one thing going for us. We’re so bad that teams may look past us. The only problem there is Tennessee is thinking revenge, not looking past. So our biggest asset is fully exposed before the game ever tips. I guess our next best asset is our secret weapon, scoring points. I’m assuming we’ve kept our offense undercover so far this year. We’ve been waiting for the appropriate time to shock the world and score 70 in a SEC road game. Heck, we’ve only broken 60 once on the road in conference play. So no one’s expecting and we have them right where we want them. Why do I think we’re going to all of a sudden start scoring points tonight? I’m drinking heavily! Then defensively, all we have to do is keep Trae Golden and Jarnell Stokes from killing us, and we’ve got SEC win number two. And, our first conference road win. Listen, I know it’s tough to fight when you’ve got nothing to play for. However, you do have something to play for! As a matter of fact you’ve got two things to play for every time you hit the floor, UGA and pride. I hope Coach Fox doesn’t lose these guys. We’re another loss or two away from ending up 2-14 in the conference. If the Dawg Nation was carping about poor recruitng this past year, let’s see how many people are lining up to play for the Dawgs coming off at best a tie for last in the SEC’s first year of not using division in the standings. It will not be pretty. That said, I’m still on board. I still love this team and every other team that has put on a UGA jersey and laced up their sneakers. Instead wearing orange, let’s make the Vols see Red! And Black! Go Dawgs!
