Well, I think the Dawgs have done the amazing! I’m not really sure since research ain’t my thang, but I would bet we are the only team in the SEC to lose to both the Lamecocks and Awburn this year, easily two of the worst teams in the history of the conference. While they were both on the road and we’re obviously not knocking it out of the park ourselves, it’s still ridiculously embarrassing. Against Awburn, we really mailed it in. We were never there. But Columbia was just another maddening trip. For some reason, we suffer some form of vertigo every time we enter that arena. And they seem to play better against us than anyone else. Hence the fact a 60% free throw shooting teams goes 14-15 from the line. What is truly amazing is the fact that we blew, for the umpteenth time this year, multiple lay ups in a game. For some reason Neme Djurisic, MarcusThornton, and the cavcalcade of big men we employ down low have a major problem making wide open layups. I said in a recent article the reason we shoot so many jump shorts is because we can’t make layups. Unfortunately, it proved to be our downfall again.
Next up are our favorite, and only SEC Nerds. And I think I smell an upset in the wind. At least I hope that’s an upset I smell. Anyway, we owe these losers from last year in Athens when we beat them like a drum for 30 minutes and then got outscored 24-3 down the stretch. This is going to be a tough game to win because they’re coming off a tough home loss. However, we’re usually good for at least one weekend home upset a year. And this is it. These guys have a dynamic duo in Taylor and Jenkins. And if Festus Ezeli ever quits airing his grievances and celebrating around that aluminum pole, he is a load to handle down low, so we’ve got our work cut out for us. However, their big guys can be prone to commits fouls. So while we seem to be layup challenged, we still have to pound the pumpkin down low. If Festivus and Chaingang can pick up a few early fouls, we can dominate inside. Gerald Robinson, Jr. seems very comfortable penetrating the last three games so let’s let him run the point as much as possible. If he can break down their defense, then we will have people open off the double team. At that point, just make the frickin lay up. Or get fouled. Either way, we’re set for life.
Sunday in Athens! Oh yes. Stroll out of church at noon and head to the Last Resort. Savor the smell of their always tasty french toast. Mimosas for the wife and crown and seven for myself. Once the pregame has lathered us up, Yo Cab it on over to the Stegasaurus for some afternoon delight as our Dawgs literally stick it to the Dores. Welcome to their nightmare. It’s gonna be ugly! We can all slap high fives after we wade through their carnage. Then back to the Resort!
