Rockin' Rob Sherrell's Hoop Dawgs - Florida preview

Welcome to the Bulldawg Illistrated Basketball report. It’s like taking the hottest girl in school to the prom and winning the lottery on the way. There’s really not a lot to say about last Wednesday’s game against LSU other than our offense gets more offensive by the week. Even though it is truly amazing that we usually blow on about six or seven wide open layups a game, what baffles me more is our scheme. It has become clearly obvious that our only consistent threat to score is Gerald Robinson’s dribble penetration. Now I’ll be the first to say I’ve been critical of Robinson’s decision making skills as a distributor in the past. However, he’s taking it to the rack and either scoring or passing to the open man now with consistency. No one else on our team can get to the rim like he can. The only problem is that he may go eons without touching the ball. We started out the game going down 10-0 with Gerald only driving the ball to the basket once in the first ten minutes. However, he then scored eight of our last 16 points in the first half driving every time he got it. So we obviously have to do more of that. Other than Gerald, it’s hit and miss right now. KCP and Ware are going to almost exclusively shoot jump shots. When they’re on, that’s great for the Dawgs. However, on most occasions they’re off. Donte Williams is very unreliable in the post because of his inability to control the basketball. However, we’ve been relying on him all year because his backup is John Florveus. Big John Florveus needs to improve. Djurisic reminds me of a cross between Larry Bird and Zsa Zsa Pachulia. Bird because he’s white, Pachulia because he misses lay ups with regularity. Marcus Thornton also has an uncanny ability to miss a lot of uncontested lay ups as well.
However, no matter how poorly we are playing, we’ve got a reason to get fired up! The Might Gators are coming to town and all their fans are following in their 1979 blue and orange T-Topped Camaros. They’ve stepped up their game this year as I’ve been told their jean shorts are acid washed and their tank tops are from The Situation collection. Hopefully, those two red-necked freaks every Dawgs fan adore will be in attendence. I want all of their fans to be there to witness a 1997 style upset. Look, they’re loaded with talent, they’re a top ten team, and we stink right now. We lost to those Maggots from Tech in Athens for the first time since 1977. We could finish last in the SEC. We’re not going to any tournament. However, we got one thing left to play for. HATE. Hate, spite, revenge, malice, animosity, contempt. Whatever you want to call it, this emotion is a motivator. And our reptilian counterparts are looking past our lowly Dawgs right now. They don’t care about us, but we sure do hate them. The only time we really can even smile when thinking of them is when we get a vivid image of ole Cletus and Junior! Lord I hope they show. Win, lose, or draw, that would make my day. Heres to you, boys! You’re the only thing I love about the University of Florida.
To all Dawg fans, let’s show up today and support our guys. The basketball season has not been kind to us this year. And while it’s easy to mail it in as a fan, I will not.
