A question to UGA players ... Do you have what it takes inside you to be great?

The offense spoke of all the weapons at our disposal. The line was going to prosper from the recently revamped strength and conditioning program and the second year in Coach Friend’s system. We were going to score and we were going to score often.
The defense spoke about being great. They spoke of doing great things against great teams and at great times. That was all the rave. Top five defense in the country last year and we will be even better this year. We have NFL players all over the roster on that side of the ball. Almost to a man, we read about the greatness they expected to achieve.
What has transpired, thus far, is anything but greatness. The University of Georgia football has played towards the opposite end of the spectrum. Far, far from great. Light years from great. We can not even see great from where our play has been.
Here is the great thing, though. SEC football is a funny sport. Teams rise and fall quickly in this league. Opportunities that seem so very far away present themselves in such very near fashion at times that might have so recently seemed impossible.
This coming Saturday, the UGA football team will have a chance to accomplish all of these great things by taking a mighty step against an opponent we know all too well. How many times, in this column, would we have to say our season lies in Florida? How many different sets of proof would we need to realize it is not about South Carolina, it is about Florida?
Well, it is here once again. Our beloved Dawgs, a team that has played less than average football this season, are in control of their own destiny this Saturday. All of the lip service that was paid towards greatness in the offseason has a chance for redemption.
Here’s the deal with this. We hope these words can make their way to every player and every coach. In spite of the bad brand of football that has been played consistently this season, we have the team that can do great things. There is not one team more talented than this group in all of the land. Not one. Certainly, not the Gators.
But, talent is just that. It does not mean anything if it can not garner results. Production is what wins championships. Not talent.
Our boys have a decision to make this weekend. Both sides of the ball and special teams need to answer the same question:
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES INSIDE YOU TO BE GREAT?
Or, will this team be like so many others that have played in Athens? A bunch of NFL caliber players that could not get the job done as a team.
Coach Grantham needs to ask himself the same question. Are you just a good interview who says all sorts of good things? Or, can you actually game plan for a top opponent and get your unit to produce results?
What is going to be, fellas? Again…

Thank you for writing this. It's been needed to be said for a while. Are we complacent, are we under-motivated, are we under-coached, do we have poor team spirit perhaps due to the suspensions, WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I wish somebody would put their finger on it for me and all Dawg fans so we could work on the resolution. As a '79 grad, I am used to success on the field and quite honestly this up-and-down mediocrity of the past 2/3 years is not sitting well with me. I'll be at the game this weekend and I EXPECT us to win! Nothing else is acceptable.
