Beautiful day, a fired-up Bulldawg Nation, the fans beginning to fill Sanford Stadium with the UGA student body and Redcoat Band already in their seats in the Northeast corner of the stadium.
Yes indeed, all systems are on go as the Georgia-Ole Miss game nears kickoff in a game that could get the Bulldogs a step closer to their second consecutive SEC Championship Game.
Now, question is will 6th-ranked Georgia be ready to stave off an upset by a good Mississippi football team? The mood of Bulldog fans – and the team skill players just came on the field for the pregame warm-up – seems to be cautiously optimistic. Everyone wearing red and black knows Georgia has more talent than the Rebels but they also worry a bit about the Bulldogs not being as jacked up as they were in Jacksonville last weekend, when Georgia of course shut down then 2nd-ranked Florida to that 17-9 tune. And said one press box regular, “Anytime you plan an SEC team, you better be ready to play. Look at this Florida game,” he said, glancing up at the television screen where the heavily-favored Gators were in a 7-7 battle for their lives in the third quarter at The Swamp.
But how could that be? How could these Bulldogs not be “up” for this football game? With a trip to the conference title game in Atlanta hanging in the balance and with also renewed life from three weeks ago after Georgia had been stomped by South Carolina, you would think that the Bulldogs will answer the opening whistle with every bit of the fire they had at EverBank Field last weekend.
Keys to the game I would think: Run, run, run that football with Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, which would enable Aaron Murray to get his passing rhythm back on track after the three-interception day in Jacksonville; also, play with the same emotion and aggressiveness on defense you played with against the Gators and really get after Rebel quarterback Bo Wallace who, given time, can hurt an opposing defense with both his arm and legs. Lastly, don’t let little Jeff Scott, the Ole Miss tailback, bust anything big on you and then win the battle of special teams.
OK, it’s less than one hour to kickoff and in about four hours, we will know if this Georgia team is an Auburn victory away from heading back to the Georgia Dome on Dec. 1. Go Dogs? …. And they better go!
