Kevin Butler's players of the game-Georgia Tech

Kevin Butler, former University of Georgia legendary kicker and a member of the Georgia radio
broadcast team, will each week during the 2012 football season select his offensive, defensive and
special teams players of the week for Bulldawg Illustrated. Here are Butler’s selections and reasons why
for the Bulldogs’ 42-10 win over Georgia Tech Saturday.
OFFENSE – Junior quarterback Aaron Murray, the nation’s leader in pass efficiency who led the
Bulldogs to a dominating offensive performance against the Yellow Jackets by completing 14-of-17
passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.
“It could have been Aaron’s last home game at Georgia – if he chooses to go pro which I think he will
–and he was just as efficient as he has been his whole career,” said Butler. “He was 14-of-17 for 200-
plus yards. He is the leader of this team and now the stage is set for him to start his next chapter and
accomplish his goals in college, of playing and winning the national championship. The key for Aaron
in the SEC championship game will be protection; if his O-line can protect Aaron, Aaron will have total
control of Alabama’s defense.”
DEFENSE – Junior linebacker Alec Ogletree, who was nearly a one-man wrecking crew against
the Yellow Jackets’ triple-option attack by making a career-high 15 tackles.
“Alec was just physically dominating,” said Butler. “His speed, his tackling, everything Alec did in this
game showed me that he also just played his last game at Sanford Stadium. Alec’s ability to make 15
tackles against Georgia Tech’s run-oriented offense proves that he is one of the best defensive players in
the nation.”
SPECIAL TEAMS – Sophomore kick returner/receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who ignited the
Bulldogs’ offense by returning the game’s opening kickoff 47 yards to the Georgia Tech 44-yard
line. Four plays later, the Bulldogs tallied their first touchdown.
“Malcolm taking the opening kickoff nearly 50 yards set the tone for the Bulldogs against Georgia
Tech,” said Butler. “Georgia Tech’s choice in kicking off backfired with a big return from Malcolm.
The hidden yardage that Malcolm can provide Georgia in the return game can swing the momentum in
the SEC championship game.”
