Georgia Drops Road Bout with No. 17 Missouri, 79-62

COLUMBIA, Mo.—Five Missouri players scored in double figures as No. 17 Missouri topped Georgia 79-62 Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena to deny the Bulldogs their first SEC victory.

Senior guard Vincent Williams led the way for Georgia (6-10, 0-3) with a career-high 23 points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also contributed 15 points.

“I thought we played super hard,” said head coach Mark Fox. “I think these kids have great pride in their team and in their school. Some of these guys have to make mistakes. They have bright futures, but they need time and game experiences and they’re going to make some mistakes. We traded buckets for a lot of the second half and had chances to creep back in it but just didn’t seize the moment and that’s one of the keys to why we lost the game.”

In the first half, Georgia weathered several Missouri (13-3, 2-1) runs and after trailing by as many as 14 points, closed the half on an 8-2 run to trail 38-30 at halftime. Georgia’s Vincent Williams, who entered the game averaging just 4.1 points per game, led Georgia with 13 first-half points, including two three-pointers. Georgia shot 55 percent in the half, including 5-of-9 from distance.

Missouri pulled away with a 15-6 run midway through the second half to extend its lead to 64-47 with just over six minutes remaining. The Tigers grabbed their largest lead of the game at 67-49 just a minute letter with a pair of free throws from Missouri guard Keion Bell. Bell finished the game with 14 points and four assists.

The Bulldogs committed 19 turnovers in the game, including 11 in the second half.

Though the Tigers just outrebounded the Bulldogs 31-29, they outscored Georgia 32-12 in the paint.

Jabari Brown and Earnest Ross led the Tigers with 15 points apiece.

Worth Noting…

• Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Charles Mann, Brandon Morris, Tim Dixon, Donte’ Williams started for Georgia marking the 11th different starting line-up the Bulldogs have had this year.

• Georgia was 10-of-17 from behind the arc—the most three-pointers the Bulldogs have made in a single game all year.

•The Bulldogs shot 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line—a season-high.

• Georgia limited Missouri guard Phil Pressey to just five points in 30 minutes of action. Entering the game, Pressey averaged 13.4 points per game.

• Georgia was just outrebounded by Missouri 31-29—Missouri entered the game averaging a 10.9 rebounding margin.

Career Highs…

• Vincent Williams set a career-high with 23 points and tied a career-high with four rebounds.

The Series: Georgia falls to 0-4 all-time against Missouri.

Next Up: Georgia will play host to LSU on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Athens. LSU leads the all-time series 61-41, but Georgia leads 25-21 in games played in Athens.
