Fox becomes a hound in hire that makes a splash or a splat?

Well the two month coaching search for the next University of Georgia basketball coach seems to have come to an end with the hiring of Nevada’s Mark Fox, according to news reports last evening by Chip Towers of the AJC.

AD Damon Evans vowed to make a splash with the hire, however as things unraveled over the last few weeks it was obvious the search deteriorated as Alabama grabbed VCU’s Anthony Grant and Mike Anderson decided Missouri basketball was more relevant than Georgia hoops.

Now the Georgia hardwood fan base is left with a coach they know very little about, which not surprisingly has the Bulldog Nation divided on whether the hire was a SPLASH or a SPLAT.

The half full contingent is just glad to finally have a basketball coach and will support him. @ally_ugadawg on twitter chatted with @BD_illustrated this morning and she feels Fox is a strong hire and great choice and trusts Damon Evans and is excited about a new day at Stegeman!

The half empty rowdies are full of piss and vinegar, even somehow wrapping Willie Martinez’ defense into the hire.

Where do you fall on the Georgia hire?

SPLASH or SPLAT?

Personally I called how this thing would unfold months ago. I knew the Georgia basketball job, despite all the talent in the state, is at best a Tier 2 job and probably in all fairness, a Tier 3 one. Damon Evans hoped that $$$ and enthusiasm would bring about a big name. However it didn’t, but I will not fault him for aiming high.

Like you, I know very little about Fox, but I am a big proponent of knowing a lot about a person by their looks. And I have to say, I like the way this Fox looks. He comes to Athens with a bit of a temper, which I absolutely love. And he definitely appears to have the smarts and savvy to walk the walk in the homes of Georgia high school hoop stars.

This hire definitely wasn’t a perfect 10, but by no means was it a belly flop either. The ultimate basketball guru Mark Bradley pretty much has the same sentiment.

Good luck Mark Fox. From here on out, you get to control whether your hire is a SPLASH or a SPLAT!

I'd say SPLASH . . . . I didn't want some re-tread coach or someone that we overpay for. Coach Fox's win-loss record is unbelievable at a school that was never know for basketball. Why should I think he can't do it in Athens? I think its a fine job by AD Evans and good luck Coach Fox. . . . . . . by the way, I really like your headline "Fox becomes a hound" . . . top notch. .
