Dynamic Duo of Interns!

I am feeling fortunate being a part-time local in the best college town in the world! And the greatest gift it has brought me yet is the ability to get my former teacher fix by having student interns. I taught highschool English for several years before joining the team at The Brunswick News. I have always had to keep a foot in the classroom and started a Newspaper in Education program at The News so I could. I also had interns there too that were fabulous.

I find that working with students, you stay young and you continue to learn too. That has absolutely proven to be the case with my two current interns Mary Boyce Hicks and Ryan Scates. It is keeping me current with the Grady School and the School of Public and International Affairs. I get to hear what professors are saying and what the trends and feelings are on the state of journalism and our publishing industry. And Ryan has enough political polish to keep me on my toes for sure! If I can just get him to put his good manners aside and stop calling me Mrs. Leavy and ma’am…I look around for my mother-in-law Sudy everytime!

Mary Boyce and I took a walking tour of Milledge with me filming her at several historic spots and we are putting the footage together in imovie. It has been so much fun to learn something new and she is so patient. Hmmmmm…now you see what I mean, I learn from them and only hope I am imparting some wisdom here and there too. It will be on our new site when it launches next Friday guide2s.com under guide2athens. We did a Shop Athens one yesterday with her cute friend Addie Jenkins that will go up as well.

Bulldawg Illustrated wants a demographic study of our readers to share with our advertisers as we know we have the best audience in the world, bulldog fans, but we want to be able to share a broader picture of all of their interests. Ryan has the task in hand and is meeting with his professor from his communication research class and will develop a survey and might be calling you soon! So take a few minutes and take his call.

What a treat to have them on our team! So on Good Friday, I am thankful for my many blessings including those two!
