Georgia has won at least eight games every year since 1997, the longest streak in the country. The previous longest streak of winning at least eight games was four – from 1980-83, the golden era. With help from my esteemed afternoon co-host Chris Brame, we put together an All-Star team from 1997-2008.
Offense
QB – D.J. Shockley
RB – Robert Edwards RB – Knowshon Moreno
WR – Hines Ward WR – A.J. Green
TE – Leonard Pope
OT – Jon Stinchcomb OT – Matt Stinchcomb OG – Max Jean-Gilles OG – Nick Jones C – Fernando Velasco
Special Teams
K – Brandon Coutu P – Johnathan Kilgo KR – Fred Gibson PR – Damien Gary
Defense
DE – David Pollack DE – Charles Grant DT – Richard Seymour DT – Johnathan Sullivan
OLB – Boss Bailey MLB – Odell Thurman OLB – Kendrell Bell
CB – Champ Bailey CB – Tim Jennings S – Sean Jones S – Thomas Davis
Let the conjecture begin!!!!

Why isn't Johnny Brown selected at RB?
.....just kidding. Good list, Jeff. I can't go against Champ, but Wansley might deserve to be up there over Jennings. I love DJ, but I would go with David Greene at QB due to his longevity at QB and the amount of big wins he had in his career. Also, I would go ahead and put Rennie Curran at OLB over Bell. Rennie has been nothing short of a warrior since he has been here. One last opinion- McMichael at TE. He started for four years and made as many big catches as any player in our history. Whenever we needed a big play between '99-01 we went his way. All the guys you listed are deserving as well, Jeff. It is tough to decide between so many outstanding players.
Where's Rich Robich?
McMichael for sure at TE. I thought Boss was overrated at LB he never made big plays. It's like he's the bulldawg version of Keith Brooking.
Sullivan over Seymour?!?!
No big plays out of Boss? Are you kidding? How many kicks did he block in 2002? He was all over the field. Agree with previous posts on Greene and McMichael as starters at there respective positions. You could also make an argument for Larry Brown at TE as well. He made some big plays.
Great comments and posts guy, this was a lot of fun putting this list together. My co-host Chris Brame makes a great point that when you're doing something like this, you have to poke at great players to help justify your arguments. As Brame said, it's like the Yankees taking shots at Mariano Rivera during arbitration. Just remember for D.J., the Bulldogs don't beat Clemson in '02 without him and he threw the pass to Terrance Edwards for Georgia's lone offensive TD in the Sugar Bowl. In 2005, he threw 24 touchdowns and only four picks, while clearly giving Georgia its most dynamic runner out of the backfield. Of course, I'm huge fans of all of these guys. Remember, Georgia was 43-10 with David Greene at quarterback. That was the most wins. Ken Dorsey was 39-2 and Matt Leinart was 37-2. In all of those 10 losses, Georgia scored 17 or fewer points. Randy McMichael had a HUGE drop against Florida in 2000 and was shaky against Auburn in 2001. I had both Sullivan and Seymour on there by the way.
Matt Stinchcomb OT All-America Champ Bailey CB All-America Richard Seymour DT All-America Boss Bailey OLB All-America David Pollack DE All-America Jon Stinchcomb OT All-America Sean Jones ROV All-America Thomas Davis FS All-America Greg Blue FS All-America Max Jean-Gilles OG All-America Knowshon Moreno All-America AJ Green All-America Hines Ward WR All-SEC Larry Brown TE All-SEC Randy McMichael TE All-SEC D. J. Shockley All-SEC Thomas Brown Mike Bobo his senior season was great started all this These guys just cannot be left off, in my opinion. And, it is not that we have won 8 games since 1997 that is significant, but that only UGA and no other program has been ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25 starting with Mike Bobo's senior year 1997. That is a Dozen Seasons, consecutively since 1997 to be in the Final AP Poll Top 25. Not sure we deserved to be in there last season, and not sure we deserved to be in there the first season of Matthew Stafford either in 2006. But, we were and that is our claim to fame. Not winning 8 games. Because if it is Wins you want to talk about, Texas has more Wins than UGA since 1997, so does Ohio State, (so does Boise State), and so does Oklahoma. All 4 have more Wins than UGA since 1997. So, the number of wins is not our claim to fame. Our claim is that we have played tougher schedules and have been the only program ranked in the Final AP Poll all 12 years starting with 1997.
I would replace Odell Thurman with Tony Gilbert. Pollack was the star, but Tony was the the heart and soul of the 2002 SEC champion defense.
Any list of this era that does not have David Greeene as the QB does not have any credibility for me. He is the alltime NCAA leader in wins as a QB! Sorry but his record compared to DJ is a NO BRAINER!!!
How can you NOT have David Greene at QB? Shockley started ONE year and Greene is the ALL-TIME WINNINGEST QB in college football HISTORY!!!! Just goes to show you guys don't have a clue about what you are talking about...
George Foster was the best OL we ever had. He should be in the OL lineup. We could find a better LB to take Boss Bailey's place. He was a dissapointment up to his senior year. I do like Shockley over Green. I like Larry Brown but he was a bit of a klutz in the flat so yes Pope gets it. I like Damien Gary but Henderson & Flowers were a little better. Im am thinking in terms of trying to beat the other SEC All Star teams.
Thanks to everyone for their interest and posts. It's amazing how the quarterback selection has caused 90 percent of the conjecture. If disagreeing strongly with one position means a list has no credibility, wow, that is a high standard. And a disagreement over one position means that we have no idea what we're talking about. Wow. I guess in politics, your candidate has to go 24 for 24 on the issues. I totally respect the disagreements, just be careful with such strong language. I thought that Ruth, Jordan, Thorpe and Ali should have been the order of the A.P. and ESPN's list of the 50 greatest athletes of the 20th century. It wasn't for ESPN. It was still a great list. But, because of the disagreement, I didn't think they had no credibility. Just have some fun with it, that's what we did. All of these candidates were great players. Go Dawgs!
Look at this list! Why can't we beat Florida/win a Nal championship? Not the talent on the field.
I'm sorry, but even if D.J. Shockley had won the Heisman, every game and scored 85 touchdowns, that doesn't compare with David Greene who was the winnest quarterback in college football history. As much as we all loved Shock, his record could not compare. David Greene's drive in the last minute of the Tennessee game is something we will never forget. Rates right up there with Buck to Lindsay.
Not sure if I give AJ Green the nod given the one season of work we have gotten from him. Reggie Brown was a productive player for many seasons, and now is an NFL starter. Give Green a couple more seasons, and he may be Richt's best receiver.
