Which three game stretch could Georgia ace?

Georgia lost a great deal of firepower off of last year’s team and faces arguably the toughest schedule in the country. I’m predicting a 7-5 season, and then a quick rebound with the Bulldogs contending for the 2010 Southeastern Conference championship. I’ve divided the schedule up into quarters. To go 9-3, Georgia would have to have a 3-0 in one of those stretches.

To go 10-2, it would take two of those. So here we go, and looking for some great reader participation here.

Which three game stretch does Georgia have the best chance to ace?

1. Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Arkansas 2. Arizona State, LSU, Tennessee 3. Vanderbilt, Florida, Tennessee Tech 4. Auburn, Kentucky, Tech

By the way, if Georgia were to win that second stretch, that would mean back to back years of beating the Sun Devils, Bayou Bengals and Vols. What’s your take?

Jeff, I appreciate your conservative preview and I'm usually very much that way myself having been raised on Munson and Dooley convincing me we were always an underdog. However, I'm a big believer that the game is won in the trenches and we will be our strongest on both sides of the ball since maybe the 2002 championship run. Of course, I'm putting alot into Strudivant, Owens, and Vance coming back strong and no other major injuries along the lines. I'm also counting on Coach Martinez rebounding well under pressure. I'll get my craziness out of the way first. I believe in trends and we OWN defending National Champs. Therefore, we beat the Gators this year. I think we also get off to a fast start on National TV, by winning the first three, that leads to an early high ranking. The stumbling block I see is in the LSU, UT, Vandy stretch. After that we get an week off that will be huge before the Cocktail Party. I'll say a 9-3, maybe surprise 10-2 regular season if we can master defending the option and shut down Kentucky and tech. Gators still win the East but we could sneak into a BCS game.

Hey Mark, I hope you're right. If a young quarterback and tailback step to the forefront, with the schedule shaking Georgia's way and Tim Tebow departing, I think the Bulldogs will have a good chance at returning to the SEC Championship Game in 2010. This schedule is just relentless. The big question mark is whether Georgia will have enough firepower to win a vast majority of the "toss up" games that will be determined by a touchdown or less? There are concerns at tailback, quarterback and kicker. That's where the points come from. Thanks as always for the insightful comments. And remember, even if 2009 is a downer, Georgia lost to Virginia 31-0 in 1979.

Ouch...that '79 season brings back cruel memories. Again, the Dooley wisdom prevailed in that he ended up hiring Dick Bestwick. I realize I'm counting on alot happening for us this year. Jeff, I really think this coaching staff feels back to the wall a little and they are going to come out swinging. I read somewhere they took on a season one mentality and got back to fundamentals as a staff. Let's hope for the best.
