Playing Catch-Up: This Week in Georgia Athletics.

It’s a big week in Athens.

The Hoop Dawgs, Lady Dawgs and Gym Dogs all return to Stegeman Coliseum this week in hopes to snap losing streaks at the hands of conference rivals.

Oh, and there is that whole signing day thing happening tomorrow as well.

Below are the leading storylines and links to get you all caught up headed into a watershed week for Georgia athletics.

1. Georgia Football Commitment Wavering: If you know Georgia Prep Football, you know Da’Rick Rogers. Living up to the Clay Travis apostrophe hypothesis, the kid is a straight up, 206 pound, 4.4 40 time, “Julio Jones-type impact” recruiting diva. The Calhoun High School product has been committed to Georgia for sometime, but two recent visits to Tennessee and Georgia-bred Derek Dooley have the kid wavering. Officially, he is to announce where he is playing on signing day. Unofficially, you can count on this kid wearing orange. He recently changed his facebook profile picture to a shot of him kissing Tennessee’s 1998 National Championship Trophy. Looks like Dooley 2.0 is going to have some success cherry-picking his homestate’s talent from up in Knoxville.

2. Hoop Dawgs Losing With More Style: There is no question that this basketball team is fun to watch…especially for opposing fans. With one conference win (albeit one BIG conference win), the Hoop Dawgs are giving SEC schools some tough games with plenty of Travis Leslie dunks to go around. I’m no Dick Vitale, but I think this team is close to turning the corner next year to make a run at some postseason action. The Bulldawg Nation desperately wants to get behind this team, as evidenced by the Tennessee and Florida games selling out. The pressure is on Fox and this squad Wednesday night as Arkansas comes to town for a 7pm tipoff. Tickets are still available at georgiadogs.com=.

3. Gym Dogs Tumbling: Being the five-time defending national champions is not easy. Sitting at 1-3 and leaving many Dawgs scratching their collective leotards, Jay Clark’s first year at the helm of this storied program is off to a rocky start. Fortunately for this team, regular season matches only serve as tune-ups for the winner-take-all postseason meets.

4. After a record setting 16-0 start, The Lady Dawgs are 2-4 in their last six games. This team is very young, featuring five true freshman. Injuries to Senior leaders Angel Robinson and Ashley Houts have been the difference in their latest losses. LSU comes to town on Thursday and Landers and company need a W in a big way.
