Trott Named SEC Female Freshman Of The Week

Jan 27, 2009 by Georgia Sports Communications

ATHENS, Ga. - For the fifth time this season, freshman swimmer Wendy Trott has been named the SEC Female Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement by the conference office Tuesday. Her five weekly conference honors are the most by any SEC women’s swimmer in one season.

Trott won two events, the 1,000 free and the 500 free, in the No. 1 Lady Bulldogs 158-142 win over the No. 10 Tennessee Lady Volunteers Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tenn. It is the fifth time this season Trott has swept both distance events in a dual meet this year.

In the 1,000 free, Trott earned her first win of the day with a time of 9:41.74, four seconds ahead of the field. Then in the 500 free, Trott took the victory in 4:44.15, nearly three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Trott not only owns the conference’s top times in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle, but she holds the nation’s top times in the 1,000 and 1,650 free and has the second-fastest 500 free time in the nation. The Cape Town, South Africa native has won 14 individual events this season, including six wins in the 500 free and five wins in the 1,000 free.

Georgia will have its final dual meets of the 2008-09 season Saturday when the Bulldogs will face South Carolina and Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon ET.
