Rockin' Rob Sherrell's we're like stringrays chomping on shrimp Uga hoop Dawgs basketball report

Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report.
It’s like the movie “Bait Shop” except instead of Billy Ray Cyrus, you get a bunch of stingrays. Why stingrays? Well, they’re bottom feeders. Why does that matter? Because outside of Mizzou, Florida and possibly Ole Miss, the SEC is loaded with a bunch of struggling basketball teams. Some teams within the conference can rise above the rest and end up fourth and with a respectable record. You need to be a skilled bottom feeder to achieve this. A stingray if you will. Our Dawgs may just be that stingray. We are 2-4 in conference. But three of our six games have been against the two best teams. We’re 2-1 against the bottom dwellers. Thus, making us bottom feeders. Or again, stingrays if you will. And guess what? We got a plate of shrimp disguised as Tigers, or whatever their name is, rolling into Athens Wednesday night. But let’s back up real quickly and look at last Saturday night.
Texas A&M was our first conference road win and came out as scripted in the BI pregame report. We played our young guards a lot and limited the minutes of the guys that can’t score. Also, as we said, John Cannon deserves some minutes based on the past performances of Dixon and Florveous. Together, that dynamic duo totals 14 feet and averages 4.9 points per game. Give the Cannon a chance to fire a few warning shots, Coach. Cannon got some meaningful minutes and proved he deserves more. KCP went for 22 and 9 and carried us once again. Sherrard Brantley had eight off the bench. And Freshman Charles Mann led us with four assists. We still had a number of problems with turnovers and that is something that has to stop. It truly is amazing that we cannot hold onto the basketball any better than we do. We panic at the first sign of a full court press and teams have figured that out. If we could eliminate just half of these turnovers, we wouldn’t struggle to break 60 every night. So let’s hold on to the ball and keep eating this endless buffet of shrimp!
Speaking of shrimp, Auburn comes rolling in with a respectable team. They have limited talent like we do, thus both teams are pretty evenly matched. However, we have a superstar and difference maker in KCP. They don’t. So I like our Dawgs’ chances. Just like we said last game, we have to hold onto the ball. Plus, let’s keep it rolling with these young guys. I don’t even think it’s so bad putting KCP at the four occasionally against smaller teams. Heck, he leads us in rebounding. Unless the other team has a proven scorer at the power forward, I think KCP can hold his own against most anyone else. While you can’t use him at the four all game long, you can put him there in spurts and keep an extremely athletic team on the floor. That will allow us to handle the ball a little bit better and reduce the turnovers. Plus, that can give other teams trouble matching up and increase our chances of scoring. Auburn’s not a really big team. We can play small ball against them as well. That means we could be looking at a 3-4 record in the conference after this game with tons more shrimp on the horizon.
So now you know we have a good chance Wednesday night at the Stegasaurus! Our X Factor has to be the crowd noise. Let’s pump up the volume. We need you and your family out supporting our Dawgs. If you don’t have a family, bring some friends. If you don’t have any friends, buy yourself one. It’s Wednesday night and you deserve it. Everyone should have a good time on hump day! Go Dawgs!
