Carlton DeVooght

'Recruiting News' Columnist

Carlton DeVooght is Vice President, General Counsel and Governmental Affairs Liason for Southeast Georgia Health System. Prior to coming in-house with the Health System, DeVooght was a partner with the law firm of Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford & Martin, P.C. in Brunswick, where he specialized in corporate, regulatory and estate planning matters.

Carlton is a double dawg. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in history and then went on to earn his juris doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law. While an undergraduate at the University of Georgia, he earned the Georgia Varsity “G” as a four year letter winner on the Men’s Varsity Swim Team, earned Honorable Mention All-American honors and was an Academic All-American.

His community involvement in Glynn County includes a variety of professional and civic organizations, including past president of the Brunswick-Glynn Bar Association, past president of the Glynn County Rotary Club, past chairman of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, a member of the St. Simons United Methodist Church Council, a board member for the STAR Foundation and the Coastal Medical Access Project (CMAP), past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, a graduate of Leadership Georgia and many others. Carlton recently won the Georgia Bar Association’s Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service.

He is married to the former Leslie Kirby, an Assistant Magistrate Judge and Glynn County native. Leslie and Carlton have two bullpups, Libby and Kirby.

Carlton stays super busy with a growing family, a great role with an innovative and quality health system and his extensive volunteer hours in the community but he still finds plenty of time to follow his beloved bulldogs. Bulldawg Illustrated takes advantage of his recruiting research by publishing his column in each issue.
