Lady Dogs Get First SEC Win Against Tough TAMU Team
The Lady Dogs earned a huge 69-59 victory against the Texas A&M Aggies in their first SEC home game of the season and they did it in dominant fashion as they held the lead for the entire game.
The Bulldogs ability to force turnovers and the Aggies inability to knock down shots played a key role in the Bulldogs domination over the Aggies. The Bulldogs forced 25 turnovers to the Aggies 19 turnovers in the game and those 6 possessions helped lead them to victory.
The Bulldogs also shot an outstanding 51.5 percent from the field in the first half in comparison to the Aggies dismal 33.3 percent from the field. This trend continued as the Bulldogs finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the field and the Aggies improved slightly as they finished 35.9 percent from the field.
Roberts was the Bulldogs MVP in this game in my opinion for the sole reason that she played a very good all-around game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Roberts was not the only standout performer for the Bulldogs as they had three other scorers who finished with double digits and they were Caliya Robinson, Simone Costa, and Mackenzie Engram, who led the Lady Dogs in scoring.
Engram finished with 19 points, 4 rebounds and with 3 steals, Costa was a point away from tying her career high in points as she finished with 13 and she also was able to force two steals, Robinson also filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.
However, if I had to pick one breakout performance for the Lady Dogs, it would have to go to Haley Clark, who led the team in assists and rebounds. Clark may have not had a huge scoring day but 7 was definitely her number as she finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, which became her new career high for assists.
The Lady Dogs improved to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the SEC but will need to continue this well-balanced offensive and defensive attack in their next game against the Vanderbilt Commodores if they hope to continue having the same success.
