Georgia Football: Fall Camp Day Nine Practice Report
The Georgia football team continued Fall Camp on Wednesday in the Indoor Athletic Facility. The players wore shoulder pads and shorts as they ran through various fundamental drills, but we were able to also see the ‘Wild Dawg’ formation. Here are my quick takeaways from day nine of Fall Camp.
Ahkil Crumpton is something special. Bulldawg Illustrated’s own Greg Poole commented on how fast he was and athletic. Poole went into detail about his footwork, route running, and speed skills. He told me that Crumpton made multiple catches that he had to fight for in the air. No one has seen him drop a catch during the media viewing period since Fall Camp started. It will be exciting to see him in action this season and how well he plays on the big stage.
The offensive line, according to Poole was another area that stood out on day nine. Isaiah Wilson was another person Poole commented on during practice. He said that Wilson is raw but shows a lot of potential. Isaiah Wynn didn’t practice for the third time this week with an undisclosed illness Coach Kirby Smart mentioned on Tuesday. With Wynn absent, freshman Andrew Thomas took snaps at left guard while Dyshon Sims worked at left tackle. Ben Cleveland took reps again at right tackle with Wilson behind him.
As I mentioned above, the media got to see the offense run the ‘Wild Dawg’ formation which Sony Michel and Mecole Hardman took snaps out of. While Wynn was absent again, another Bulldog came back to practice. Jeremiah Holloman practiced today and showed no sign of injury besides a wrapped left forearm. Sophomore wide receiver Tyler Simmonsi, who injured his wrist during Saturday’s practice, was also back at with a light cast on his left wrist.
Poole commented on the defensive front and how good Chauncey Manac looked during drills. He said Coach Trey Scott praised him and urged him to keep pushing. However,, Michail Carter was out again today. Smart mentioned that like Wynn, M. Carter is also sick with an undisclosed illness. Freshman linebacker Walter Grant returned after missing part of practice on Tuesday.
Georgia heads in to day 10 of Fall Camp on Thursday and into their first scrimmages of the season on Friday and Saturday. Poole said the team looked focused and ready to attack the day.
