Two days ago Kirby Smart got word from the NCAA that former California wide receiver Demetris Robertson will be eligible this season.

The 5 star was heavily recruited in 2016 when Smart first arrived, but chose Cal over Georgia. Circumstances have changed and right when you think Kirby has already signed enough 5 stars he goes out and snags a 5-star transfer.

“I’m really excited for Demetris because he is a great kid and he’s blended in well with our team,” Smart said. “The one thing about him that I wasn’t aware of is he’s played with really good toughness and gone out and competed everyday.”

With the new addition of Robertson, the offense’s potential has increased exponentially. When he was a true freshman at Cal, he caught 50 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns earning him Freshman All-American honors.

It seems the only issue at the moment with Robertson is getting himself in game shape after not being with the team during summer workouts.

“I’m really pleased with his work ethic, but his conditioning has got to improve to really be able to help us this season,”Smart Said.

After losing Javon Wims last year the Bulldogs are looking for someone who can replace his production and Robertsons Freshman year was eerily similar to Javon Wims past season.

Whether It’s Riley Ridley, Terry Godwin, or whoever that picks up where Wims left off, adding another talented wide receiver like Robertson is only going to help the team going forward.

“He’s got good speed, he’s bright, and he’s picked the offense up,” Smart said. “We just kind of let him go out there and play and he’s naturally picked things up.”

Kirby finished his last quest about Robertson mentioning how he is curious to see how he transitions from the Pac 12 conference to the SEC.

“He’s playing in the SEC now and there’s guys just as fast as him out there,” Smart said. “This league you find out real quick when you get bump and run every down when you play South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, they’re going to bump and run you every down. He’s done a great job competing and I’m very pleased with where he is. I want him to continue to work to develop and learn the offense and help us every way he can.”
