SOFTBALL: Cortni Emanuel Named First-Team NFCA Southeast All-Region
The Georgia softball team’s Cortni Emanuel was named to the NFCA Southeast All-Region first team and three other Bulldogs also were named to NFCA Southeast All-Region Teams.
Sydni Emanuel was named to the second team, and Alyssa DiCarlo and Maeve McGuire earned third-team honors. It’s the fourth straight year that Georgia has placed four or more Bulldogs on the All-Region list and gives the program 62 All-Region selections in its 21-year history.
C. Emanuel is earning the third All-Region accolade of her career. A First-Team All-SEC pick, the junior led the league with a .410 average, 34 hits and 12 stolen bases in SEC play. The outfielder was a top 34 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and continues to have a tremendous season at the plate overall, as her .428 batting clip and 74 hits rank in the top 30 nationally. A threat on the basepaths, C. Emanuel holds 43 stolen bases while her 120 career stolen bases rank fourth among active players and highest among all juniors.
S. Emanuel is consistent at the plate and in the field, as she is 17th in the nation and second in the league with a .437 batting average while seventh in the nation and third in the SEC with 80 total hits this season. Recently selected to the All-SEC Second Team and All-Defensive Team, S. Emanuel has 307 hits in her four-year career, which ranks third among active players in the NCAA. Her 238 hits at Georgia are currently eighth in program history. S. Emanuel holds down right field for the Bulldogs with a perfect fielding percentage on the year. Including her freshman season at Texas Tech, S. Emanuel has earned All-Region in each of her four years.
In just her sophomore season, DiCarlo continues to be a threat at the plate. Her 60 RBI rank second in the league and 12th in the nation while she is just three RBI shy of matching her total from a year ago. The Arizona native holds 12 home runs for third in the SEC while it tops her 11 from 2016. DiCarlo is third on the team and 10th in the conference with 58 hits, as she has played and started in every game of her two-year career at third base. It’s the first All-Region accolade for DiCarlo.
Rounding out her career with one of her best seasons, McGuire is finding her way on base, ranking eighth in the SEC with a .472 on-base percentage. The Illinois native is also 10th in the league with a .606 slugging percentage, as she is fourth in the conference with 14 doubles and third with four triples. It’s the first All-Region honor for the lefty catcher.
No. 25 Georgia is set to take on Ohio Valley Conference Champion Jacksonville State in the opening game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Friday. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
